A combination of factors have kept the Philippines great surf all but hidden until now.In many places the wind blows onshore, so early morning sessions are the best, but in many areas the monsoon waves are superb and they are all the time.Another surprise are the northeast monsoon swells the wrap around the top of Luzon and rol
l down the west coast. With the wind slightly offshore, parts of northwest Luzon- many of the spots still "secret"- get excellent waves.
With all these new discoveries the Philippine surf scene is booming, and the locals are catching on fast to the sport. Already there is a national circuit and locals only contest are now crowded with good surfers. But visiting surfers are extremely welcome, and at this point, there are still vast areas of unknown but surfable coastline to explore, and even in the famous breaks it is not common to have the waves all to yourself. Get in there now and enjoy it while it lasts.
